Polystyrene

High Impact Polystrene (HIPS) is a synthetic polymer that is economical, light weight, and durable with good stiffnes making it popular in a wide range of applications such as indoor and outdoor signs, hang tags, stencils, posters, POP displays and more. It has excellent thermal stability and low moisture absorption which is what makes it good in outdoor enviroments. It comes in a wide range of thicknesses to make it suitable for many different applications. The consistent white matte surface makes it excellent for direct printing or mounting, Available in 48" x 96" sheets.

Indoor longevity of 5-25 years, outdoor longevity of 6 months to 1 year.

Favorite Features

It comes in a range of thicknesses. It has a smooth finish so it prints well. It has excellent rigidity for it's thickness.

Drawbacks

Because it comes in sheets, some large sizes are not economical to print or would have to be printed in multiple panels.

Best Applications

Indoor and outdoor signs. Exhibit, POP and trade show graphics that are flexible or cut into special shapes. Hang tags, shelf signs, and stencils are also popular uses for this material.
